Overview
Hello, we are the 758 Argus Royal Canadian Air Cadet Squadron, in Brampton Ontario. We are a registered charitable youth organization and have been serving Brampton since 1965. The Canadian Armed Forces administer the program and it's partially funded through the Department of National Defence. However, it is up to each cadet squadron to raise the rest independently.
We try to conduct as many fundraising activities as we can and in order for any form of fundraising to be successful, we rely on support from within our community in the form of monetary and/or product donations. We are asking you to join us in supporting this wonderful youth program with monthly, annual, or one-time donations in the form of gift card purchases.
When you buy a gift card through our FundScrip campaign, you’re getting exactly what you paid for, and we’re getting a small referral fee from FundScrip. You lose nothing; it’s a win-win situation!
Consider this: We operate a Canteen (snack bar) every Monday that earns between $50 and $60. Considering that we train on approximately 32 Mondays per year, we are earning less than $2000 per year in this manner. Our bi-annual Tagging campaigns are our biggest source of funding, earning up to $30k per year.
These two forms of fundraising combined do not reach the halfway mark for our annual operating expenses of $70,000. Community support is instrumental to the success of the program – for the benefit of these kids.
Here’s a little more about the cadet program: The 758 Argus Squadron is one of 450+ Royal Canadian Air Cadet Squadrons in Canada. The program is open to youth between 12 and 18 years of age who are interested in the military or aviation. Aviation is not the primary take-away kids get from the program – it's all about developing them into leaders and upstanding Canadian citizens. Consider this: the program lessons are taught by the cadets themselves! The cadets prepare and deliver all of the course material during regular training nights. Imagine being 15 or 16 and teaching your peers about airplane engines, meteorology, or downed aircraft survival.
Cadets are encouraged to become active, responsible members of their community. They make valuable contributions to Canadian society on a daily basis in terms of environmental stewardship, citizenship, and community participation.
There are many valuable opportunities available for cadets during the regular weekly training and the squadron teams like marksmanship, band, drill, effective speaking, orienteering and many more. There are also summer camp opportunities where detailed training occurs, and where lifelong friendships are made. For those willing to work hard, there are opportunities to achieve glider and powered pilot licences! It's my belief that this is the best youth development program in Canada, and it's made possible only through the hard work of volunteers and local businesses within each cadet unit's community.
The Cadet Program succeeds only through strong community support and involvement. Cadets, in turn, make valuable contributions to their communities. Indeed, Cadets is a community – it only works when everyone works together.
We thank you in advance for your consideration and potential contribution. Without community support from people like you, we literally would not be able to succeed – we appreciate your support.
Thank you again,
Lance Daoust, Chairman of the 758 Argus Squadron Sponsoring Committee
