Overview
The Edmonton String Players Association (ESPA) is a non-profit association and registered charity that operates the Music Enrichment Program. Our program provides violin, viola, cello, and string bass students in the Edmonton region with the opportunity to be a part of the larger music community beyond private lessons. Through group rehearsals, students improve their sight-reading, listening, and attention, and they build confidence through participation in concerts and through encouraging and mentoring newer musicians. Our program does not provide beginner instruction, but is designed to complement and enhance the music lessons students are already participating in at school or at private/group lessons.
The program was founded in 1959 and was originally supported by Edmonton Public Schools, providing after-school instruction as well as the opportunity to participate in ensemble playing and string orchestras. In 2013, the program separated from the school system and now operates independently. We currently offer two levels of orchestras and are looking forward to expanding to a minimum of three levels in 2021/2022.
We are a volunteer-run, non-profit organization and federally registered charity. Without our volunteers and supporters, the Music Enrichment Program would not be able to continue. Thank you!
