Dufferin Fire Venturers & Rovers, known as Dufferin Fire, is a Scouts Canada vocational emergency services program dedicated to developing future firefighters, medical responders, and community safety leaders. Our members, ranging from youth Venturers to adult Rovers and Advisors, share a passion for service, teamwork, and community protection. We proudly serve Dufferin County and beyond through fire prevention, public education, emergency support, and leadership development.
Our members train throughout the year in essential emergency service skills including fire suppression, medical response, search and rescue, traffic management, and public safety education. Each training session builds not only technical ability but also confidence, leadership, and professionalism. By combining the structure of Scouting with real-world emergency service experience, Dufferin Fire gives participants a meaningful opportunity to learn, serve, and make a lasting impact.
Courage, compassion, and commitment guide everything we do. Courage means stepping forward when others step back, facing danger and challenge with calm focus. Compassion means being there for people on their hardest days and providing comfort and care when it matters most. Commitment means dedicating ourselves to ongoing learning, teamwork, and service to our community. These values shape how we train, respond, and lead.
Why we are fundraising
As a volunteer program, Dufferin Fire operates entirely on the dedication of its members and the generosity of community supporters. We are raising funds to support training, safety equipment, and outreach so that our members can continue to learn, serve, and protect effectively.
Funds raised will help cover:
Firefighting and medical training materials
Personal protective equipment and uniforms
Simulation tools for first aid and rescue drills
Fire safety education materials for schools and community events
Operational supplies and logistics for camps and deployments
Certification courses and ongoing skills development

Dufferin Fire earns a small percentage of each sale from the retailer.
The donations come directly from the participating companies, not from the supporter. This means you can continue to buy groceries, gas, and household items exactly as you normally would, while quietly helping our members train and serve.
Dozens of major Canadian retailers are part of the FundScrip program, including grocery stores, gas stations, restaurants, home improvement stores, and online retailers. Each one contributes a set percentage of the sale back to our group, helping fund our operations and training year-round.

Who we are
Dufferin Fire Venturers & Rovers operates under the Vocational Scouting framework within Scouts Canada. The program blends traditional Scouting principles with career-focused emergency service training. Our members learn teamwork, leadership, and discipline through hands-on experience in fire and emergency operations.
The program includes three levels:
Venturers are youth members who begin learning the fundamentals of firefighting, first aid, and teamwork.
Rovers are young adults who take on more advanced training, leadership responsibilities, and operational roles.
Advisors are experienced adults and professionals who guide, teach, and oversee the group’s activities to ensure safety and growth.
This structure allows for mentorship and continuous learning. Older members teach newer ones, creating a culture of growth, respect, and mutual support. Over time, Venturers become Rovers, and Rovers often move into careers in fire, paramedicine, or emergency management.
Our impact in the community
Dufferin Fire members actively support a wide range of community events, camps, and safety initiatives throughout the year. Our members provide fire watch and safety enforcement during Scout camps, assist at community events with first aid and emergency response, and deliver public fire safety education through interactive displays and demonstrations.
We work alongside other local organizations to promote fire prevention awareness, encourage the proper use of extinguishers, and teach children and families how to stay safe during emergencies. Through partnerships and hands-on activities, our members gain practical experience while giving back to the community.
The group also plays an important role during Scouting events, where safety, organization, and teamwork are essential. Whether maintaining fire lines at a camp, running first aid stations, or coordinating with event staff, Dufferin Fire members are recognized for their professionalism and reliability.
Training and education
Training is at the heart of everything we do. Our members regularly participate in scenario-based exercises covering topics like fire suppression, rescue operations, hazardous materials awareness, and first aid. We use realistic equipment and follow standardized procedures to ensure our members gain genuine experience that can be applied in both volunteer and professional settings.
We also place a strong focus on leadership development and decision-making under pressure. Members learn how to manage incidents safely, communicate effectively, and work as part of a coordinated team. These skills benefit them not only in emergency services but in all areas of life.
Public education is another key part of our work. Dufferin Fire members run information booths, safety presentations, and community outreach programs that teach fire safety, emergency preparedness, and respect for emergency responders. By raising awareness and sharing knowledge, we help prevent emergencies before they happen.
